Traveling to Boracay? Here are some activities which you can add on top of the beautiful beach experience.

ATV(All Terrain Vehicle)

If you do not want to get wet and still want to have fun, there are also activities you can do in Boracay. There is the ATV ride. You can rent the vehicle for 1 hour at 3500-4000 pesos. There will be a guide that can take you  sight seeing around the island of Boracay using the ATV. The beach is not the only int

eresting part of the island. Within the island, there are other sights to see and the guides will take you to see those sights.

Wall Climbing at D’Mall

Believe it or not, Boracay has a small wall climbing facility at D’Mall. It is very hard to miss as it is located along the pathway of D’mall and is an open space wall climbing facility. The price is not too expensive. The last time we went there, the price is just 50 pesos per climb and there are three levels you can try to climb from beginner to expert.

Massage, sunbathing, strolling

Along the coast of Boracay, you can find massage shops that offers from hand and foot massages to full body massages with price ranging from 350-500 pesos. The shops are open space but you will be protected from prying eyes by curtains that surround the bed where you will lie down should you opt to have a full body massage. If you prefer to, you can even have a massage along the shore.

Sunbathing is another activity you might want to do along the shores of Boracay. A lot of foreigners enjoy getting a natural tan under the sun while sunbathing along the shores of Boracay. And Hey, it’s free…

Strolling is also a good way to pass your time when in Boracay as there are plenty of things to see there. From small shops that sell souvenirs, to massage shops and restaurants, to Tattoo parlors that offers Henna Tattoo, the non permanent tattoo. A sight to behold along the shores of Boracay are the sand castles that are built along the pathway of Boracay that can be found on Station 1 and 2. The sandcastles are really beautiful and has an amazing intricate design. You can take pictures beside or inside the sandcastles as long as you are careful, for a small fee or donation.

Nightlife in Boracay

Nighttime is never boring in Boracay. Even during the evenings until late in the  night, The shores of Boracay is alive and teeming with life, with colorful lights decorating the establishments lining the coast of Boracay. Restaurants turn into Bars that offers a variety of cocktails and drinks and good music. During weekends, Fire Dances and Live band performances are held in Station 1 and 2.

Surely, from morning till night, there is a lot of things you can do in Boracay.

Tips for Making a Travel Checklist

Checklist for CHU rename.

Image via Wikipedia

Part of planning a travel is making checklist. As I have mentioned in the previous article, having  a checklist is very important. It is especially important for people who are a bit forgetful and scatterbrained.

To make a To-Bring Checklist, you have to consider how long your trip will be, where you will be going and what you will be doing in that place. That way, you will be sure to bring your necessities with you on your travel.

Example of a To-Bring Checklist for a 3-day trip to Boracay.

  •       Tooth brush and Toothpaste
  •       Soap
  •       Shampoo and conditioner
  •       Lotion
  •       Sunblock (SPF 45 or higher)
  •       2 pairs of swimsuit
  •       6 pairs underwear(maybe more?)
  •       2 -3 pairs of shorts
  •       4-5 pcs shirt
  •       1 pair flipflop
  •       goggles or snorkel
  •       Camera
To make a To-Do checklist, proper planning is needed. You should make a research of the place you are planning to visit and find out what activities are worth doing in that area. That way, you could plan your vacation based on what you want to do while visiting the place you are planning to go to. Here is an example of a planned Itinerary.

Travel Tip: Make a Checklist!

Tip-of-the-day-bulb2

Image via Wikipedia

Let’s face it, a lot of people love to travel. And as I have mentioned in the last post, due to the promo fares handed out by many of the carriers here in the Philippines, more and more people are travelling. For the newbies in the travelling world, and for those who deem to see fit to heed this advice, here is a tip: When travelling, make a checklist.

Checklist of what you might ask? Well, for both business and leisure travelers alike, there are two checklists you should have when you travel. First is the To-Bring checklist and second, the To-Do checklist.

The To-Bring checklist should consist of the necessities when travelling, such as toiletries, enough clothes for the number of days of your travel, underwear, skin care, gadgets, etc.,  and the things you need for whatever you would like to do when you travel. For example, if you are travelling for business, you should include things like the files or documents or the gadgets you need to bring for your presentation or training. This is important so that you would be sure to bring all the things you need and you would not need to spend more money buying new things just because you forgot to bring them.

The To-Do checklist, on the other hand should be your itinerary for your trip, including your accommodation. This is especially important for business trips so that you could keep up with your schedule and maintain your professionalism. This would also ensure that you would not forget a scheduled meeting specially if you have plenty of things on your list of things you need to do on your trip. This is also beneficial for  leisure travelers as it would ensure that you would be able to enjoy a relaxing vacation on your trip and you would be able to do things that you are supposed to do to make your travel worth your while.

On the next topic, I will give you tips on what you should include in your checklists and how to prepare a To-Do checklist so that you could enjoy your vacation. Who knows, I might include a sample checklist….

Second Trip to Davao- Samal Islands

Map of Davao del Norte showing the location of...

As what I have mentioned a few posts ago, me and a friend went to Samal Island together with another family during my second trip to Davao. Samal Island is a very beautiful place. We went there via barge (a ship where you could take your car with you). The family we went with hired a van and we took it to Samal. The barge trip was about 15- 30 minutes away. It was just a short trip as Samal is still part of Davao.

Monfort Bat Colony

The first place we went to in Samal is the Monfort Bat colony. There, you could find thousands of bats in caves. You would not be able to get inside the caves but from outside, you would be able to see thousands of bats covering the walls of the caves. Their number is no reason for worry though as they are Fruit bats and pose no harm to humans whatsoever. According to the posters posted around the entrance of the colony, these bats feed on fruits and in turn distributes pollen from other fruit trees thus causing trees to flower and bear fruit. So, these bats are the reason that Davao is The Fruit basket of the Philippines and the reason why there are many Durian in Davao.

Hamigit Falls

Our next destination was Hagimit falls. Although Hagimit falls consisted of just small falls, the water is very cool and refreshing.  The water seemed very fresh and enticing but me and my friend did not go swimming as we did not want to get wet at that time. We had lunch there and some of the kids who were with us enjoyed swimming in the water. We didn’t stay there very long as we still had somewhere else to go to.

Our last stop was a private resort in Samal. It was owned by a friend of the family we went with and there we met other friends who also went there to relax. The place was a resort with many small cottages surrounding a big mansion complete with an entertainment room and a game room. The view from the veranda of the mansion is very beautiful and relaxing.  The resort has a big swimming pool that is about 8 ft at the deepest part and 2 ft at the shallow part for the children.  We sang songs inside their entertainment room as they have their own videoke  microphone and afterwards went swimming at the pool. It was lots of fun swimming in the pool even though it was raining. We finished at around 6 pm then we had dinner where we enjoyed lots of fruits such as lanzones and rambutan then went back to Davao proper the same way we came.

Samal is such a beautiful place and I really hope I get to go back there again to enjoy the other parts of the island. One day is not enough.

Second Trip to Iloilo – Travel by Ship

On my second trip to IloIlo, we did not take the plane. We took a ship. It was cheaper than if you took the plane, around 700 pesos one way. But the travel is more than 12 hours long. There were three of us, actually four because we met someone we knew in the ship. He was also going to Iloilo. We left Cebu on a Thursday evening at 7:00 PM and arrived at Iloilo Friday at almost 8:00 am.

Sunrise in taken by ship bound to Iloilo

A view of the sunrise from the deck of the ship going to IloIlo

We had our dinner at the ship as the ship has a very nice lounge/restaurant. The food is a little bit expensive but it is good. During the night, I barely slept. I guess I was anxious because it was my very first time to travel via big ship. Don’t get me wrong, I am not the seasick type of person. I am used to travelling by Fast craft. But they only take 1-2 hours to get to the destination I need to go to, like Cebu-Tagbilaran or Manila-Bataan. So, yes I was anxious. Excited and nervous to take the long travel by sea to Iloilo. The night was very dark and I can see lightning from far away, lighting the sky. It was both exciting and scary. You do not know what could happen in the middle of the night while you are in the middle of the sea.  But it was a good experience for me. It is nice to see the sunrise on the horizon while travelling by ship so I took some pictures of the sunrise. For me, It is a very beautiful sight to behold.

As I have said earlier, we arrived in IloIlo at around 8:00 am and our host picked us up at the pier and took us to their house. We spent 4 days in IloIlo, but that would be another story to tell. I’ll tell you about it on my next post.
